Dave hadn’t been on a date in over a year, something he liked to blame on the happenings of 2020. It was a new year, however, which meant a fresh start, so he was feeling hopeful.

He downloaded a dating app on New Year’s Eve, an event he had spent alone for the first time in nearly a decade, since no friends were having people over and he wasn’t sure if he should either. The evening must’ve been a popular night because he got several matches before the ball dropped and the new year had officially begun.

The next morning, and the first day of a fresh new year, he already had plans to meet with one of his matches at a local coffee shop. She was apparently eager to get the year off to a good start as well. …
