Don’t Rush Perfection

It was one in the morning and there were coffee grounds all over the kitchen floor.

Normally Dave wouldn’t be in this type of situation, considering it was one in the morning and there were coffee grounds all over the kitchen floor.

Dave couldn’t sleep. Well, he could, but just not for long. After a solid four hours, and that recurring dream where he matches with his high school math teacher on a dating app, Dave woke up and had enough. We went down to the kitchen, crept slowly past the sleeping cat, and rushed a sacred process — which resulted in spilling the coffee grounds all over the kitchen floor.

Dave cleaned the mess. Sulked for a moment, careful not to whimper so loud as to wake the cat, and trudged back up the stairs.

Math always made him think of summer school.
